Picture
The ECO-Green Product Evaluation System is a national program dedicated to ECO-Green sustainable design. The incentive to construct green appears from the business opportunity it represents. Experts predict the green building industry grew by as much as 400% in 2010. Nearly all home builders surveyed recently by McGraw-Hill Construction reported being involved in green construction on a various level. Green building is the future of all building and the ECO-Green Product Evaluation System is making it much more accessible for the average consumer. Eco-Green rated products encompass a wide variety of green goods & services ranging from solar panels, hybrid & electric cars, organic personal care products, eco-pet supplies, greener gadgets, Eco-fashion, and home and building supplies that will help us live a healthier and more sustainable lifestyle.

1.       What is the Eco-Green Product Evaluation System and what is the process?

The Eco-Green Product Evaluation System is a product grading system that determines the ‘greenness’ or how ‘Eco friendly’ a product is.  Eco-Green uses the familiar symbol of a stoplight to rate each product by assigning it either a RED, YELLOW, or GREEN light. Each color resembles how eco green a particular product is.  If a product receives a RED light, the consumer should be wary that the item is not Eco friendly.  If a product receives a YELLOW light, the consumer should be cautious that the item is only moderately Eco friendly.  If the product is awarded a GREEN light then it is eco friendly.

2.       Why is the Eco-Green Product Evaluation System important and how does it impact the environment?

We spend an average of 90% of our time in buildings-and the air quality inside is two to five times worse than outside air. Buildings in the United States are responsible for 39% of our total energy consumption - 60% of our electricity alone. As a point of reference, transportation - including cars, buses, trains, etc. - comprises only 27%. ECO-Products cost on average 12% more than standard products, but yields a life span ten times as long than standard products. ECO-products are not only better for the environment but also better for your wallet.

3.       Who does the Eco-Green Product Evaluation System affect?

Not only does the Eco-Green process have a positive effect on the environment, but also the consumer! The green rated products are Eco friendly and save the consumer a little ‘green’ in the pocket as well.  Although some green rated products may be slightly more expensive initially, they typically last longer and also save money by saving energy.

4.       Where are Eco-Green products implemented?

Green products can be found in most any store but the problem is knowing and deciding what the most environmentally friendly product is. The Eco-Green website and mobile application is here to make it easy for the consumer to identify these products to help the planet and save the consumer money.   The website provides lists of green products which links to their home store or an online purchasing application.
